Tom Ford and Free Cocktails

Yesterday was a big day. Started at the J Crew sample sale, which was a mad house but FULL of beautiful clothes (a post about that to come). Then on to Fashion’s Night Out.

First was Tiffany’s, where a large collection of extremely tall people were enjoying blue square pastries shaped and decorated like gift boxes. Many ‘hip’ folks speaking many diverse languages set an interesting scene, but that wasn’t enough to keep our attention for very long. Exit Tiffany’s and on to Bergdorf, which we got into just in time- the line was growing exponentially. The vodka/lemonade on the 3rd floor flowed freely, too freely perhaps as by about 7:15 they were out of booze and we had to flag down guys in aprons hiding bottles of wine behind their backs. The amount of celebrity was striking but because I had no idea who most of the people were it wasn’t that exciting. They closed off the 7th floor so we couldn’t even get up to see Mary Kate and Ashley or Padma and the cook off – rats! Hype aside, the real revelation came in the basement, where after sampling a number of creams and whatnot, we arrived at the Tom Ford counter.

I’ll admit Tuscan Leather is old news. Tom Ford’s Private Blend came out a few years ago, there are a million things about it all over the webs, etc., but after a few sprays of this and walking the city with it on, I couldn’t believe how seriously I was considering dropping $200 on a bottle. I’ve never been a cologne connoisseur (the bottle of Hugo Boss Soul I got in college is still going strong), but let me tell you, a good fragrance is just devastating.

According to the Tom Ford site:

A Chypre blend of notes brings a raw, yet reserved sensuality to this original take on a classic leather scent. Saffron, Raspberry and Thyme open to Olibanum and Night Blooming Jasmine. Leather, Black Suede and Amberwood add an intricate richness.

A ‘Chypre’ is a family of perfumes with woody base notes and citrus high notes and Olibanum, aka Frankincense, is harvested by scraping the bark off a Boswellia Tree and letting the sap bleed and harden (thank you Wikipedia). Cool. Other sites say it smells like cocaine. Don’t know if thats true, but why not. All I know for sure is that today after sleeping and showering, it still smells great.

Tom Ford Tuscan Leather = Dangerous.
